My Fair Lady

On May 8, 2008 in Toronto, Dancap Produdctions will present Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady at the Toronto Centre For The Arts.

This new production of Lady originally premiered at London’s Lyttelton Theatre in March 2001 and was later transferred to the West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in July 2001 where it ran for 2 years. Not only did this production break box office records at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, it also won five Laurence Olivier Awards including 'Outstanding Musical Production' and 'Best Theatre Choreographer' for Matthew Bourne (Edward Scissorhands, Swan Lake).

Featuring book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, music by Frederick Loewe, My Fair Lady is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. The musical was a big hit on Broadway in 1956 with Julie Andrews playing Eliza DoLittle and Rex Harrison playing Professor Henry Higgins. The musical played more than 2,700 performances. The success on Broadway eventually led to the London production as well as the film version which featured Audrey Hepburn as Eliza and Rex Harrison who carried his role, Professor Higgins, from stage to screen.
This US touring production, based on the 2001 London West End revival, was directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Matthew Bourne.
Trevor Nunn, the Tony Award winning theatre director, is well known for his theatre direction with many other major musical hits like Cats, Starlight Express, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard and The Woman in White.
Matthew Bourne is also well known for his choreography for shows like Swan Lake, The Car Man, Mary Poppins, Edward Scissorhands.
The rest of the creative team includes Shaun Kerrison (Associate Director), Fergus Logan (Associate Choreographer), Anthony Ward (Scenic and Costume Designer), William David Brohn (Orchestrator), Paul Groothuis (Sound Designer), Chris Walker (Dance Arrangements), David Hersey (Original Lighting Designer), Rob Halliday (Lighting Designer), James Lowe (Musical Director / Conductor).
My Fair Lady cast features Christopher Cazenove (Professor Henry Higgins), Lisa O'Hare (Eliza Doolittle), Tim Jerome (Alfred P. Doolittle), Walter Charles (Colonel Hugh Pickering), Sally Ann Howes (Mrs Higgins), Barbara Marineau (Mrs. Pearce), Justin Bohon (Freddy Eynsford-Hill), Dana DeLisa (Eliza Doolittle at certain performances/Ensemble). The ensemble includes David Abeles , John Paul Almon , Harlan Bengel , Eric Briarley , Ronald L. Brown , Debra Cardona , Kyle Deschamps , Bill Dietrich , Warren Freeman , Jazmin Gorsline , Robin Haynes , Marnee Hollis , Lisa Kassay , Adam Laird , Lainie Munro , Christine Negherbon , Cathy Newman , Georga Osborne , Lauren Pastorek , John Scacchetti , Byron St. Cyr , Jesse Swimm , David Tankersley , Stephanie Van Duynhoven , Erin Willis , Lee Zarrett.

This US touring production is produced by Cameron Mackintosh, David Ian, Live Nation, NETwork Presentation and National Theatre.

This marks the second time Mr. Producer, Carmeon Mackintosh, has produced My Fair Lady. He last revived the show in 1979 in London’s West End at the Adelphi Theatre with Alan Jay Lerner, the lyricist, who directed the musical himself.
Another of the producers, as noted earlier, is David Ian. He has been a key producer for many of London’s West End hits. He will also join forces later on in Toronto with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mirvish Productions to present the North American premiere of the London production, The Sound Of Music.
The Toronto Engagement of My Fair Lady is presented by Dancap Productions, a theatre company recently launched by Toronto’s Audrey Dan who is determined to bring more exceptional theatre to Toronto audiences. His producing credits include Broadway’s The Wedding Singer, The Pirate Queen as well as Jersey Boys which is the anchor show for Dancap Productions’ first season in the summer of 2008.
